Co-Sleeping

I saw this ad a few weeks ago, and it ticked me off.

I've been planning to write a blog post about the benefits of co-sleeping since I saw that stupid ad, but haven't gotten around to it. Yesterday, I found the following video, and it pretty much said everything I was going to say. So instead of spending 2 hours typing out a post most people probably won't sit to read (;-)) I'll just let the video speak for itself.

Vaccine ABC song

My cyber friend Zhandra posted a status yesterday in which she talked about a friend of hers needing to write a poem that included at least 3 names of vaccines in it. Upon hearing such a challenge, Zhandra sat down and got to work on a poem of her own, which ended up being the vaccine version of the ABC song.

It made me giggle and was too good to not share. :)

A week of gratitude

After dinner on Thanksgiving, my mom handed everyone around the table a little paper book. She explained that there are 7 pages in the book and she challenged us to every day for a week find 7 things to be thankful for. It was a challenge to find the little silly things that people don’t usually see to be thankful for (for example…q-tips, but really, what would we do without them??) but it was also a lot of fun. It opened my eyes to all the many small and large blessings God daily drops in our path. I enjoyed it so much, I’m starting a new little gratitude book today to do for this next new week.

I encourage you all to try it for yourselves. You’d be surprised at what you find to be thankful for. :-)

A Lolly Story

Yesterday morning I went over to my parents house really early. Everyone had just woken up and were getting their day started. I was hanging out upstairs with my mom and little siblings, who were all still snuggled up in bed. Miss Lolly had some crazy dragon breath, which she was carelessly breathing allllll over my face.

Finally, after I had inhaled enough death breath fumes, I turned to her and very sweetly, mind you, said, “Lolly! Your breath stinks! You should go brush your teeth.”

She gave me her famous, “Oh no! You didn’t,” look. And then said,” Well. I think you should just go home then.” And with a little hair flip turned her head to start breathing her fumes of stinkiness all over poor Bodey.

I was kind of surprised, and I said, “Lolly, you do not need to be rude to me. That was not nice.” She ignored me. (Oh that little girl…)

A few minutes later, as she’s smooching all over Bodey and talking to him in her most adorable Lolly-love voice, we over hear her muttering to him, “Bodey, I do not like your mother at all today.”

*Sigh* *giggle* *sigh*

That little girl. She brings more laughs and gasps to us than anything else I can think of.  I hope someday the Lord gives me my own little Lolly.

Happy 7 months Bodey!

Today is Bodey’s 7 month birthday!!!! Wow where did the time go!?

His latest milestones are:

1. He’s *almost* sitting up on his own now. (As you scroll through the millions of pictures I posted, you’ll see him get top heavy and start tipping!)

2. His first tooth popped through (kind of…the corner of it did) today! And it was a pretty easy teething experience. Notice those two totally adorable necklaces he’s sporting? ...Yes my son is wearing a necklace and thank-goooodness for them! (They are baltic amber necklaces, they help with teething pains, swelling, moodiness and a whole bunch of other things that adults can benefit from as well such as headaches, migraines, carpel tunnel and arthritis, plus more.)

3. He is getting better at getting on his hands and knees. Today he managed to crawl sideways (it was super strange to watch) about a foot.

His favorite things are:

1. books…still

2. music…still

3. his fish tank…still

4. baby carriers…stilllllll (better yet, being worn in a baby carrier)

and 5. he was recently introduced to my gift card collection. He loves gift cards. Smile

Forgive me for posting my entire camera’s worth of photos. But I couldn’t pick my favorites. :-D

My deceptive tale

I’m being punished. For being deceptive.

Here is my woeful tale…

A few weeks ago I started begging Jeff to let me start Christmas Decorating. But being the big buzz kill he is, he insisted that I wait until after Thanksgiving, because “no one decorates before Thanksgiving.” I begged and begged and begged. Nagged and nagged and nagged. Whined and whined and whined. All to no avail.

Finally, I resorted to deceptiveness. I asked my dad to take a picture of a Christmas tree on google or something and text it to us, with some excited text talking about getting their tree set up.

So, the other night, I got a text from my dad. It was a picture of a lovely Christmas tree and it read: “We got our tree up!!!!!” So of course, that coupled with all my begging and whining, Jeff finally got the tree down from the rafters in the garage.

That night (the tree was still in the box) Jeff looked at my text and said, “How do we know this is the real deal? He could have just taken a picture to make us jealous. It is an up close picture.” I made something up, started sweating a bit and changed the subject. I figured I’d put the tree up myself the next morning. (I didn’t want to call any more attention than needed to the tree subject!)

There is a whole bunch more to that story ^^ but I’m too ashamed to admit the whole tale of my sneakiness.

The next morning I got up, excited to start decorating. And then the punishments slowly started. For starters, our tree stand broke on me. I spent one whole day just putting the stupid thing together and trying to get it to stand up straight. Finally I got it, but decided to decorate it later.

So, last night. Jeff shows up to my parents house. And lo and behold...there is no Christmas tree in the corner. He realized that we had pulled a fast one on him, but hey, what ever it takes right? My tree is up.

(Oh, and then, Mr Funny guy, aka my dad, thought it’d be funny to talk all night long about how “Nobody decorates before Thanksgiving.” Hahahahaha. Thanks Daddy.) ;-)

I finally started the decorating process last night. But guess what? My punishment has continued even further. My lights have a short in them. :-/ I decided to go through the dead strand today to fix it. Welllll, today I spent over an hour trying to fix it before I finally just gave up.

Now, I am waiting to go to Walmart to just buy a new strand. *sigh* I should have just been honest and waited til after darn Thanksgiving to decorate.

Someday this tree will get decorated. And by golly! It WILL be before Thanksgiving!!!! ;-)

Note to self: next year, don’t be sneaky. Just get the tree out and set up yourself. …It can be a surprise! Yeaaaah. A “surprised.” :-D

Name changes & God’s little gifts

Yesterday was a sad day. I finally, after 2+ years, drug my lazy rear down to the social security office and traded my last name in for my new Bauman last name. Can you believe that? I’ve been married for 27 months and just yesterday made my name change legal?

Its so annoying when you put something off for 2 years and ends up only taking 20 minutes. :-/

I also finally got Bodey’s card! Yay! Our little tax deductable ♥

Lately I’ve been really trying to pay attention to the little blessings from God in life. Things that normally I’d miss. Yesterday I saw so many little gifts from God.

The main one was our whole trip to the SS office. My mom brought me down there, and the whole way down we dreaded it, just knowing it was going to take forever. But God is good.

When we got there, I ran in to grab a number while my mom started unloading the boys. By the time I got back to the car to help her unload and we made it back inside (just a few minutes had passed) my number was already being called. The whole thing only took 30 minutes, compared to the horror stories we’ve heard of people waiting hours and hours to be called.

What a blessing! Take time this week to really notice the little things God does for you…that front row parking spot, that shirt on the clearance rack that fits you perfectly, or your mom making your favorite meal tonight!

Bodey Update

Here’s my promised Bodey update:

Age: 6 1/2 months

Hobbies: Rolling over. Rolling off stuff. Drooling. Chewing on things.

Favorite foods: Boob juice

Favorite hang out place: on his mama

Favorite things: music. fish tanks. anything that fits in his mouth.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I can’t believe he’s already almost 7 months old! Where did the time go? I wish I could say, “I wish he was tiny again,” but I can honestly say I don’t. I do not miss those weeks of colic!!! But, I can say, “I wish we could freeze time right now.”

Bodey is at such a fun age. His little personality is starting to slowly show.

He’s generally a very serious baby; He studies his surroundings, soaks everything in and watches quietly.

Its crazy how, while they are from the same family and almost the same age, Bodey and Shiro are so different.

Shiro is a little giggle bucket. You can look at that boy wrong and he will belly laugh. But to get Bodey to even smile you have to practically do a song and a dance…and even then, you’re lucky to get a small grin.

Lately though he’s loosened up a bit. When him and I are at home during the days he gets pretty silly. His new thing is randomly throughout the day he will throw his head back and laugh. It is such a riot. Oh, and he loves getting kissed. He finds kisses to be so funny.

Bodey spends 70% of his day on my back. I always tell my mom that the best gift I got at the baby shower was my ergo baby carrier that my parents got us. It is by far the most used item we received! Wearing Bodey allows me to do my chores and get my stuff done, but keeps Mr B happy by keeping him on his mama’s back.

(Side story: a few weeks ago I had him on my back and I was doing my hair in the bathroom mirror. He was getting bored and fussy, so I turned sideways so I could see him in the bathroom mirror. He got all giggly and smiley, I realized that he didn’t know he was on my back since he couldn’t see me (and I wasn’t talking, so he didn’t hear my voice), once he realized it, he was happy and content again.)

The boy is very smart. His absolute favorite thing in the world is to have me wear him. But I don’t like putting him on until I am dressed for the day. So every morning, Bodey is content to hang out in his bouncy or saucer until he sees me start to get dressed. Once I’m dressed and heading to the bathroom to put my face on, he immediately starts fussing. When I come in the room with a baby carrier, he stops and gets all excited, knowing that soon he’ll be in his happy spot on my back.

Bodey rolls over “fluently.” And he also rolls off of things fluently, but that’s a whole different blog post. He’s not sitting up yet, but that’s probably because he doesn’t have time to practice sitting up, since he’s always strapped to me. ;-)

He taught himself a new trick last week though, he now does push ups on his tippie toes. And he looks so pleased with himself when he does it. I was impressed today—and slightly saddened—when I laid him down for some floor time with his Uncle Shiro and the little booger pushed himself up on his hands and knees. My mom is betting he’ll be crawling within a month. Yeah right…I guess we’re gonna have to bump his upsie time on his mama to 80 or 90% of his day to keep him from learning anything new. ;-)

He absolutely lovesss his fish tank. He could sit and stare at it for hours. He follows the fish back and forth…back and forth…back and forth. He also loves books. We started him a book collection and every day I read him a little book. He studies the pages intently. And as long as he has a toy in his hands, he doesn’t try to eat the book. Woot Woot!

He’s working on a tooth right now, he’s been working on it for several months though, so who knows how much longer til it shows itself. Which means, he’s constantly drooling and always chewing on everrrryyything.

TV’s, computer screens and ipods captivate him. I try not to let him watch any movies or anything moving on a screen, but I will admit, there have been a few times where he’s woken up at 2-3 in the morning and won’t go back to sleep, so I have propped the ipod up once or twice and let him drift back to sleep by being mesmerized by the prettiness on the screen. <---Bad mom award there.

The boy has music deep in his soul. He loves music. Any type. If I start beating a rhythm out on the desk, he will stop what he’s doing, turn to the source of the sound and start rocking back and forth. Sometimes if he’s having a rough time falling asleep, I will play something soothing on the piano, and we’re guaranteed he will quiet down and usually drift off to sleep. And he also sings, yep…he sings. I think he’s going to be a worship leader or something because he really likes the sound of his voice. And with all the time he’s spent exercising those vocal chords by screaming, he’d better be a darn good one. We gotta get the little guy some maracas or something.

Oh! And his latest trick, which he learned to do today? He now smacks his lips. Loudly. He thinks he’s just the c0olest thing on earth.

Lets see, what else…? I asked Jeff what I should say about him, and he wants me to make sure I comment on how cute he is.

So I will: Bodey is super cute. I’m not just biased. He really is cute.

I sat him down and attempted to get some good pictures of him. But he was too interested in chewing on his Sophie Giraffe to pay attention to me. This is how our photo shoot went:
