Shylie's fingernails

Tonight I painted Shylie's fingernails. She was so cute and sat perfectly still while I brushed each tiny nail. She watched in fascination, and then insisted on helping blow them dry...which in her case, she was actually spraying them down with her spit! After I told her they were dry, she walked around the rest of the evening holding her hands out and showing off to her siblings the light pink sparkles on her finger tips. When she showed Mama, I received the evil eye. Apparently only her toe nails have been painted up until tonight. :-} How was I supposed to know? Thankfully I picked a nice light pink color, so I didn't get busted too badly!

Normally I'm not a nail polish snob, I like to buy the cheap .99 cent stuff...and only when it is on sale! But I came across this nail polish color today online, and I'm thinking I might have to buy it. It's O.P.I, so i'm sure it's not cheap, but it might just be worth it. Isn't it pretty?? I'm sure Shylie girl would go goo-goo over this color!

If I have a little girl, I'm definitely going to be painting her little nails! However, I'll probably be like my mom and only paint her toe nails til she's 4 or 5, which even then will be light and feminine colors. I can't wait!!! :)

My hopechest's new resting place

When I was 15 my daddy made me a hopechest. Of course it came with me when I got married and moved out. When Daddy made it, he asked me if I'd like a design or an outline on the lid of the chest. I declined, since I wanted to put it at the foot of my bed someday.

When Jeff moved it into our house, he asked me where I wanted it. For some reason, I put it against the wall. For a year now, my lovely hopechest has taken up several feet of space against a wall. I'm not sure why -or how- I had forgotten about my original plan for it.

As Jeff and I have been scratching our heads trying to figure out how to fit a crib, a cradle, a rocking chair and a new dresser (Jeff doesn't have a dresser yet!) into our already too crowded bedroom, I turned to my space saving savvy mom for help.

Her first bit of advice: "Where is your hopechest now?" I told her it was against the wall, to which she immediately replied, "Ok, so move it to the foot of your bed." I felt like an idiot. I can't believe I forgot that is what I wanted to do with it all along--even from the day it first was being built! *Sigh...*

So, today Jeff and I started rearranging our bedroom. This will be a lengthy process, as we also need to build some shelves in the closet and such before much of the arranging can take place. However, this simple act of moving my hopechest to it's rightful place of honor at the foot of our bed has already helped immensely with our lack of space problem.

Not to mention, it looks darn beautiful there! (Thanks Mama for your help!!)

Highs and Lows

High of the day:

1) going to Calvary chapel Modesto and hearing David Burdick preach
2) after church going shopping and getting me some new maternity shirts and a pair of jeans!

Low of the day:

having a weigh in with my mom, and finding out I'm losing the "whoever gains the most weight buys the other couple dinner" bet. :-( Time for a diet.

Shopping spree!

Today Jeff and I decided to go to Modesto Calvary Chapel for church, instead of our home church Calvary Chapel in Turlock. It was nice to go there for a visit, and we really enjoyed the sermon. Pastor Damian was on vacation, so the high school pastor David Burdick spoke. He taught on pride, which of course doesn't apply to me or my life. I'm one of the most unpridful persons I know. (Hahaha, totally kidding. I was very convicted.)

After church, my sweet husband agreed to chauffeur me around town and take me maternity clothes shopping. First we went to the Goodwill store where I scored a pair of jeans that actually fit me. (Such a novelty!) I only paid $5.00 for them and they're in great condition. In fact, they look almost brand new!

Then we went to the mall, and went shopping at Motherhood. For christmas, my sister in law got me a gift card to Motherhood. I've been eager to spend it, but everytime I go into Motherhood I get overwhelmed as there are so many choices and things to pick from, but so little space. Having it all crammed into such a tiny spot confuses me and I always end up leaving empty handed. Lol. But today I was determined to come home with some new stuff today.

I ended up getting three shirts, and still have a little left over for another trip.

This is what I got:

I'm trying to decide which of these two shirts to get with the last remaining bit on the card. I like them equally both...maybe I'll buy them both with my ebay money...?

Hmmm...I must like stripes...

dumbing down daddy's tv

Today we thought it would be fun to watch Netflix while we worked on cleaning the "game room." Excitedly we hopped online and began browsing our "play it now" options. Out of everything we had to pick from....guess what we chose?

That's right...Veggie Tales. We watched several different veggie tale videos throughout the day.

Later, this evening, my dad texted me. (Did I mention we share a Netflix account with them? So everything we watch (or they watch) shows up under each of our netflix's pages.) He said, "You're messing up my netflix list." I didn't know what he meant, so I asked him to explain. He says, "I got on netflix and can't find my "recently watched" videos. My page is filled up with 5-year-old shows." I started laughing, having forgotten that whatever we watch he can see. I sent a embarrassed smile and made up some lame excuse, to which he responded: "You are dumbing down my tv. :-(" lol!

So, tonight Jeff and I decided to "help out his tv." I'll be honest and admit that I really wanted to watch more Veggie Tales videos! But we finally settled on "Lockdown"--A hard core prison show. I figured if on the list of "recently watched videos" there is a random adult show mixed in with some children shows Daddy won't mind us "dumbing down his tv." ;-)

Highs and Lows

High of the day:
Washing my sheets and putting my bed together
(Can't wait to crawl into my clean sheets tonight!!)

Low of the day:

Our washing machine getting sick (It's better now--thank-you Jeff!) and flooding out our indoor laundry room. Eeeek! What a mess!!

today's acomplishments

Today Jeff and I had a stay at home kind of day. I had two things I really wanted to tackle today: our "game room" and our bed.

Since we've been living here we haven't cleaned our game room out once. Right after we married and moved in, the "game room" somehow became our storage room. Well, now that we have a computer and a baby on the way, we realize that this room can't be used for storage anymore--it's gotta get cleaned up to use as a computer room, game room, guest bedroom and in a few years, a baby room.

Though the pictures look terrible, it actually only took us a few hours to straighten it up.

Before:

After:

I'm hoping now that it's clean, to get in here in the next few weeks and finish painting it up. Notice our "underwater" theme that we began months ago?

Now...for our bed! A few weeks ago I washed all of our sheets and our duvet covers. I put the sheets back on the bed, but left the duvet covers off, because we had a nasty dirty little dog--who loved ruining our bedding--and we wanted to get rid of her before putting the duvets back on. Well, we got rid of her a few weeks ago and I just haven't gotten around to doing the bed yet. Today I did! I washed our sheets up again (can't wait to crawl into bed now!!) and then had Jeff help me with the duvets--those suckers are hard to put on! Our bed now looks beautiful and inviting! I can't wait for bedtime!!!!
Before:
(Looks worse than actually is! I tore it apart this morning to wash our sheets!!)
After:

I'm so proud of myself. I just listed one of my Teething Bling necklaces on ebay. *Sniff Sniff*

Wrestling Match

I don't know if you can tell, but burried underneat this pile of madness is poor Jeff.

What this video doesn't show, however, is seconds after I stopped filming, somehow Jeff managed to flip all 3 boys onto the ground and pin them in the most uncomfortable way possible. They were all screaming and begging for mercy like little girls.

(One other thing this video doesn't show, is that Shannen is a punkish little cheater! The little snot took off his shoes and stripped off one of his stinky, sweaty, and dirty socks to rub all over Jeff's face. I guess he realizes that he doesn't have a chance at winning the match without taking drastic and DIRTY steps to help him win!)

The miracle of life

January is National Sanctity of Life month. This video has been going around on Youtube, facebook and other sites to show people the Miracle of pregnancy and a baby's life.

It's an incredible video, absolutely amazing in every way.

Scoop and Stack icecream scooper

I've been looking everywhere lately for a Thrifty's ice cream scoop. (You all know what thrifty's scoops look like, right? They're perfectly stackable and smooth. Somehow, it makes the icecream taste even better than if scooped with a regular scooper!) Nowhere online sales the scoopers except for ebay....for a whopping $99 bucks. Yeeeks! It's not THAT important to me!!

So I started looking around for a scooper like the Thrifty's one, but a different brand.

I found a super cute one on Ebay that is heart shaped--absolutely adorable in every way. The only problem is...it's $30 bucks. Though I want this scooper badly, it's one of those items I'm going to have to argue with myself over for a while first.

Then! I finally found it! It's called... "The scoop and stack!" And best part yet...It comes in pink and red! And it's less than $20 bucks!

Here's a youtube video on how it works:

I love how perfect the scoops are! Look at these pictures!! I'm getting this scooper asap!!!!

Samoas icecream!!!!!

Guess what is back in stock at the grocery stores?!??

I've been waiting for this baby since last February when stores stopped carrying the Girl Scout flavors. Now I just have to wait for Raley's to have a 2 for $5.00 sale.
That day can't. come. soon. enough!

Today's mail treasures

This is what Mr. Mailman delivered to me today.

These little baby headbands are what I've eagerly been waiting for for the past 3 weeks. The story behind these little cuties is: A few weeks ago, Jeff and I felt like the Lord was telling us that we are having a little girl (that is a long story, one I will post about sometime in the future). We excitedly ran out to the mall to buy some baby bows. We found some we liked (the same style as the picture below) but it was $6 per headband and they had no pink. :-( We ended up buying two other little headbands for much cheaper (two for $6 vs one for $6!) and I told Jeff I'd look online for the pink flower one we wanted.

That evening I got online and started surfing Etsy. Lo and Behold...I found these!!! The prices were too good to be true....6 headbands for.....$5 bucks!!!! And they had pink!! I ordered the pink ones and the cream colored one and told the lady to surprise me with the rest of the colors.

I'm sure in the future, I'll have more than enough posts about "Teething Bling" products, but for now, this is my first post. I found Teething Bling a few months ago and looove their products. They recently are having a Valentine's day sale, where all their pink necklaces are only $10. I bought my mom and I each one, and then these three to list on ebay. (They sell fantastically! I've been thinking about placing a wholesale order and trying my hand at ebay...again.)

I swore to myself that whenever they arrived I wouldn't fall in love with them and want to keep them. But I should know myself well enough by now. :-( I'm going to cry when they sell.

....I might end up keeping the pretty swirly one....I'm still fighting myself on that one.

P.S. As much as I love Teething bling, I HATE their scented necklaces. The necklace in the middle is "Tween bling" --designed for tweenage girls who like to chew on stuff and play with things. It's berry scented. And it stinks. :-[

And FINALLY!! :-D my new piano book came! I bought the "easy" version of this book a few months ago new at a store. I paid $24 dollars for it...eeek! When I decided to buy the original version I promised I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it. I couldn't find it in stores anywhere for that price, so I turned to ebay. I only paid $11 dollars for this brand new book!! Welcome to my piano book collection Mr Book!!

Well, that's all Mr. Mailman delivered today. It feels like Christmas. And now, I'm all caught up on expected packages. So...until I go crazy shopping online again, it'll be like January and February; The long boring months without any holidays.

a dream come true!!!!!

Oh happy day! Happy day!!! The mail has come ...finally!

I thought days like this could only happen in dreams...

When I went to get the mail this morning, not only was there a yellow envelope AND a white envelope in my actual mail box...but I was also greeted by a package on my doorstep!!! (*sniff sniff*) This is too happy to be true!

3 packages in one day? I can tell already this day is off to a gooood start!

waiting for mail :-(

I loooove getting packages in the mail! Probably to a fault. I do a lot of online shopping, so many days out of the month I'm usually expecting something in the mail. It drives Jeff nuts when he gets the mail a few days in a row and on each day is bringing in a new package. I usually try to get to it before he does (not to keep the packages a secret--trust me, I tell him about them! He just doesn't get as fussy, as long as I discover the package first!) and am very disapointed when he beats me to the box. It's pretty pathetic and embarrassing admitting that one of the highlights of my day is: getting the mail.

I can't think of many things more joyous than opening the mail box and seeing one of those beautiful little yellow packages--or for bigger items, a white package!! nestled inside with MY NAME on them! What's even better than those little yellow or white envelopes is when you open the door and a little BOX is sitting on the porch, too big to fit inside the mailbox. Ahhh! I love getting packages in the mail. :-}

With all that said, there is nothing I hate more than WAITING for a package to arrive!!!!!! Arrrg! It's like torture!! Obviously, my posting this goes to show that I must be waiting for a package to arrive. If you've come to that conclusion on your own...then yes, you are right.

I ordered something *super exciting off of Etsy about 3 weeks ago. Every day for 3 weeks now I've rushed to the mailbox just waiting for my prize to arrive. And every day for 3 weeks...it hasn't come. I emailed the gal last week and when she finally wrote back she had a sorry little story about a death in the family. ha! Likely story. She assured me her packages would be going out in the mail that very day. That was a week ago. :-( And it still isn't here.

*I can't say what it is yet! Its a surprise for Jeff!!! I'll share pictures and a story once it finally arrives...IF it finally arrives. >:-(

Maybe tomorrow will be my lucky day. *Fingers crossed!*

Zumba dancing

Apparently Zumba dancing is also a great form of exercise. However, I'm not sure if it's calm or safe enough for a pregnant person. ...Maybe after the baby is born?

New blog content--Highs and Lows

Something that my parents started doing at dinner times about.....6 years ago(?) was every evening after a meal, Daddy would say: "Highs and Lows." We'd start at one end of the table, and work our way around, each person stating the "High" --the best part-- of their day and the "Low" --the worst part-- of their day. It's always been fun to come together at the end of a day and hear about every one's best and worst parts of the day.

This tradition is still going in the Ney house, and I have no doubt that in 10 years when many of us are married with children of our own, we will still be doing highs and lows when we are all gathered around for a meal together. I hope to keep this tradition running in Jeff and my family as well, as I'm sure my siblings will do with their own families.

For now though, I have decided to add "Highs and Lows" to my blog posting. I'll try to do it daily, but I'm not going to make any promises...you all know how I am with making "I'll post daily promises." ;-) I'll do it in the evenings, after my day has come to an end.

Hopefully, since this is an easy enough goal, I will be able to keep up and be faithful with posting daily.

Note to self:

Never wear a skirt to Bradley class again. :-/

Time to go shopping for a comfy pair of sweat pants.

Hula Dancing

Another form of dancing that Debbra recommended was Hula dancing. I looked up a few videos on hula dancing tonight, and let me tell you...I like hula a lot better! Hula dancing looks much more, well, shall we say "appropriate" than belly dancing! Plus, it actually looks like you have to make more moves with your hips (and less with your bust!), which is most helpful for a pregnant person. Not to mention it's more relaxed and calm, rather than belly dancing; which appears to be quick jerky motions, that seem like they could cause pain later on...?

I'm not really sure which is best. I know I'll give both dances a shot because Debbra recommended them both, but I'm really hoping that Hula is better for me! If I'm going to ever get caught dancing, I'd rather someone catch me fully clothed (well mostly) and dancing modestly versus half dressed and shaking my bust and bum like there is no tomorrow.

belly dancing

In our Bradley class, our instructor encouraged us to look up videos on Youtube of belly dancing and learn the moves. She explained that belly dancing is a great form of exercise while being pregnant, because of how our body moves while dancing. I looked up a few videos tonight.

I'm going to admit: I had no idea what belly dancing was. I thought it was that creepy ground bouncing dance stuff that guys do when trying to show off. I couldn't help but think while Debbra was telling us to learn the moves, "WHAATTT? How is that even safe!?" Now I know... lol. And I can also see somewhat, as to why it might be good for us. It looks like a really great workout-one that would probably--well, most definitely kick my butt!

I'm willing to give it a try, but I'm just gonna say two things now: A) You'll never catch me wearing the typical "belly dancing wardrobe." (With the exception of that awesome bell laced skirt thingy the lady in the first video is wearing. A skirt that jingles every time I shake my rear? That's just as cool as sliced cheese!) and B) Well, you'll never catch me belly dancing in general. I'm going to practice, because I'm a good student ;-) But it'll be in the confines of my game room, and only when I'm home alone...with the game room door locked!!!

Checkers with Jeff

Today Jeff and I played a couple rounds of Chinese Checkers. Jeff hates the game. He hates the logic behind it. Hates the thought it takes. And mostly, he hates losing to me. (I'm not very humble about it, am I?)

We played a few rounds, and of course, I spanked him each time. After we finished a game, I turned the board back around to play with my lucky color and he says, "Another round? Do we have to? My arm is sore." I said, "Sore from what?" He pauses, looking very sheepish and finally he quietly says, "From moving the marbles...?" He was hoping that excuse would fly. It sooooo did not.

Nice try though; It was cute.

Bradley class #1

Tonight I started our Bradley classes! It's a 10 week course... and if our teacher tries to shove as much into our heads as she did tonight...whooooa! I'm gonna be learning a lot!!!

I'm bummed out however, since Jeff works nights, he can't take the class with me. :-( Thankfully my awesome mom offered to fill in his place and be my "coach." Which I thought was a pretty great idea, since she needs a refresher on this stuff anyways. (As Debbra, the teacher said tonight: "Marni, how do you plan on being her coach? You might be in labor at the same time!!" ...hadn't really thought that thought through yet!) It'll be fun taking it with my mom, it's a good chance for us to visit and hang out without the little ones jumping all over, but I am jealous of the other ladies who are lucky enough to have their man with them.

We covered so much tonight. (And we darn well better! These classes go from 6:45-9:00pm!) My mind is spinning from all we learned...I wonder if i'd look silly bringing a pad of paper next week to keep notes...?

We learned tonight portion sizes for food. Bradley classes are ALL about eating healthy, and since they encourage us to eat so much, I was really happy to see what portion sizes really are. I had no idea! Of course though, as I'm trying to think of examples to share I can't remember most of them. The only one I do remember...I wish I could forget! Did you know that a serving size of ice cream is the size of a tennis ball?!? Whaaat? She can shove 2 eggs a day down my throat, she can force me to eat however many serving sizes of meat a day, she can make me walk and squat and everything else she said tonight. But DON'T mess with my ice cream serving sizes!!!!!!!

She also showed us various work outs we can do to help us feel better, sleep better, and in general, help us with labor. But most importantly, she showed us the "right" way to squat. So all these weeks that I've been exhausting myself and straining my feet trying to obey my midwife and squat...well they've all been in vain. I've been doing it all wrong. :-<

She encouraged us from now on, instead of bending over to pick something up we need to squat. Practical examples of this was doing dishes. Instead of bending over to put the dishes in the dishwasher (this applies only for the luckies who have dishwashers!) they need to squat to put them in the dishwasher. One quiet gal, suddenly exclaimed, "Forget the dishwasher! I'll hand wash." Psh! If I had a dishwasher I'd be thrilled to squat. (Truthfully, the only reason I'm even boring all of my readers by blogging this stuff...It is just to get out of doing my dishes for a little bit longer. Pathetic, right?)

Our instructor is one of my mom's friends. She's super fun, incredibly funny and so energetic. So it's nice to take this class from her, versus a stuffy old lady! But the way she talks and says things, she puts it so..."there ya go!" That you almost leave feeling stupid, thinking, "Why haven't I ever thought of that myself?"

For instance: obviously I'm completely opposed to being induced. I think every apple ripens at its own time...so do babies. Something Debbra said is, "Notice when you talk to new mom's who were induced, almost all of them say, "I had to be induced because I was a week overdue." Well, considering most women are induced these days, wouldn't you just assume that gestation is actually 40-41...sometimes later?" It was like a light bulb went on in my head...like "Oh duhhh!" It did however somewhat dampen my spirits, as I've really been hoping and keeping my fingers crossed that I'll have this baby a week or two early. But after listening to Debbra, I pretty much just need to assume that i'll be going a week or two "late."

My "homework" for this week is: practicing my kegals, squatting and eating healthy. And unfortunately, I can't just tell her that I ate well...she wants proof!

Debbra gave us all a little folder, and in the folder is a diet page. (Basically to keep track of everything we eat for her to look over and talk about.) She said in her 10 years of teaching Bradley classes she has only had to give one lady a sad face. Apparently the lady did so horribly on her eating that Debbra drew a big baby's face on the paper with tears running down its cheeks and said, "This is your baby crying." ROTFLOL--I thought that was a little harsh, but apparently the next week the lady came back with an excellent diet page! As soon as I saw the page and realized we have to daily fill it out, I thought, "I failed already." I told my mom heading home, that I'll just draw the sad crying baby face on it for her, to spare her the agony of having to do it herself.

One other thing (amongst many!) that she said is, "If you are going to eat something unhealthy...make it count. For instance, which is "better"--a snickers bar or bag of chips? The snickers bar, because then at least you can count the peanuts towards our daily needed protein.

I can totally work with that logic.

I'll end this post here, so that I can get scooting and figure out how to justify the cupcake that I just ate. It does have eggs in it...eggs are good for me! Right? ;-)

Grand Piano in Ocean

Today I got online and on my front page, was a picture of a grand piano sitting out on a sandbar in the Ocean. Naturally curious, I clicked on the picture to read the story.

Apparently, today the 650 pound grand piano was discovered in a Bay in Miami. The piano is sitting upright on top of the sand. (Meaning it didn't just wash up from the ocean.) Nobody knows how it got there, but supposedly its "not going anywhere soon." It falls under neither the coast guards duty, the wildlife preservation's duty nor anyone else's duty to remove the piano. So, according to authorities "It will not be going anywhere unless it becomes a danger to wildlife or the sailors."

Isn't that so weird?? I'm going to try to remember to look up the story again in a few days and see if they figured out who (and HOW!!) put it out there!

27 week sono video

This obviously isn't a video of MY baby, but I decided in celebration of the 3rd trimester, I'd post a video of a 27 week sonogram. It's amazing to see what our baby (aproximately) looks like!! And its super cool to see the movements they make at this stage...now I know what some of those little flutters, kicks and nudges are!

3rd trimester

Today marks 27 weeks--apparently the beginning of the 3rd trimester!!!!

Wooo-Hooooo!!!!!

Only 13 weeks to go til we meet our little Blessing!

Yeeeeeeek!!!!!! (Quiet echo-ey noise)

Did you hear that noise? Well, It was my bank account...and it's screaming for help.

I just found something online too wonderful to be true.

Check these out!!!

They're pink!! They're glittery!!! They're girly!!!

And they come in big people and tiny people's sizes!!!!!!!!!!!

If I have a girl, I am sooooo buying these for us!! Can somebody please comfort my bank account and assure it that it will survive--even if I buy these shoes?
